With the ever-evolving world of superhero cinema continually expanding, fans have found themselves facing a new era of the DCU. While James Gunn and Peter Safran have been at the helm of the reboot, not all their ideas seem to be sitting well. Although they may have removed most of Zack Snyder’s heroes from their list, there is one actor who might still have a shot at a comeback. It is Will Smith and his character, Deadshot.

While the character has undergone a cinematic transformation in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, fans still want him to make a comeback. Here are 3 reasons why most DC fans believe Smith should return to DC.

Back in 2021, the world got a new version of The Suicide Squad. With James Gunn taking the lead instead of Zack Snyder, not all the actors from the first film made a comeback. While they managed to keep Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, they ended up losing Will Smith to his packed schedule. Although Idris Elba played the lead role in the 2021 flick, here is why the rest of the world is hoping the father of three will reprise his role.

1. The perfect Deadshot

Back in 2016, Will Smith gave the world a performance they will never forget in Suicide Squad. While the actor usually starred in action-packed thrillers, this time he jumped into the supervillain side of things. Apart from being his usual witty self, he brought a different intensity to the character, Deadshot. The King Richard star’s ability to inject humor into the hitman’s tough exterior added a new depth to the character.

It even ended up making him a little more relatable to anyone who watched his performance. Although some fans were less than impressed by the film, no one could deny that Smith’s efforts of bringing humanity to a character that supposedly had none seemed to have paid off.

While that might be the best reason to get Smith back to the DC sets, it is not the only reason he should reprise his iconic role.

2. Will Smith’s on-screen and off-screen chemistry with co-star Margot Robbie

Back when Suicide Squad came out, it was evident that Will Smith and Margot Robbie’s chemistry in the film was the ultimate highlight. Most of their on-screen interactions were filled with sharp banter and playful exchanges, which left their audiences wanting more. While having The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star back could ensure public anticipation for any film, it could also put the duo back in the spotlight.

After all, their 2015 collaboration, Focus, showed the world just how good the stars can be on screen. With Smith having a laid-back and rather playful demeanor, it makes sense that he could help put James Gunn’s cast and crew at ease in high-tension moments.

3. Working with James Gunn could take Will Smith to new heights

Over the years, James Gunn has become known for his unique way of storytelling. While the world got to see his skill during his Marvel run, the director has since moved on to the DC world. With him at the helm of all DC projects, Will Smith coming back as Deadshot could potentially bring about a new era for the actor and the character. From getting more of a backstory to seeing a more human side of the assassin, the director is sure to want to dive deep.
