One of the biggest hurdles for Bryan Singer when casting for X-Men back in 2000 was finding the right guy to step into the iconic Wolverine's shoes. After all, it was not like there was a parade of 5'3" super-muscular actors just waiting to bring a comics-accurate version to life. This was also why some fans had a bit of a gripe with Hugh Jackman taking on the role- as he was simply too tall for the character. But Jackman had a special way of making fans forget all about that little detail every time he appeared on the screen as the mutant.

In fact, Jackman’s portrayal of the character almost single-handedly turned Wolverine into the poster child of the X-Men cinematic universe. But perhaps it is about time to consider turning a new leaf. Here are three reasons why.

Why is it time for Hugh Jackman to hang up his claws?

Hugh Jackman has been playing Wolverine for over two decades. For years, fans have been taking in the signature rugged toughness and emotional complexity of the character. But perhaps, it is time for the MCU to find a new Wolverine actor who can add a fresh style and vibe to the role. Secondly, nearly all the old Marvel actors, including those from Fantastic Four, have been recast to fit into the MCU, and it has not caused any confusion along the way. So bringing in a new face for Wolverine should not be a problem.

The third and most important point is that Jackman might run the risk of wearing out his hype, something fans have seen with Robert Downey Jr. lately. Even though the Iron Man actor is one of the most beloved stars in the MCU, his return as Doctor Doom has been labeled as a desperate move by the studio to cash in on nostalgia. But if not Jackman, who might be next in line to take on this clawed mutant?

Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine was like a dream come true for Marvel fans. But one of the biggest surprises in the movie was seeing Henry Cavill as a Wolverine mutant. Since Cavill might never really get the chance to return as the Man of Steel, his Wolverine cameo sparked some excitement among fans who still hope to see him as a superhero after the heartbreaking DC exit.

Apart from Henry Cavill, many fans have also been cheering for Dafne Keen as X-23 to take over for Hugh Jackman. However, Hollywood insider MyTimeToShineHello revealed earlier this year that  Jackman is too keen on keeping his claws sharp as Wolverine, even after Avengers: Secret Wars. With that, it seems they were not joking when they teased about dragging Jackman’s character into the 90s.
