This Is the Perfect Ryan Reynolds and Anna Kendrick Movie to Kick Off the Holiday Season Before Halloween 2024
The first thought that springs to mind upon hearing Ryan Reynolds' name is Deadpool. Over the years, that character has practically become his superhero alter ego. But one part of his acting repertoire that often gets tucked away in the corner is his experiments with the horror genre. Beyond his romantic comedy treasures and superhero masterpieces, Reynolds has a stash of underrated horror flicks that make for a hair-raising Halloween binge. For instance, there is this decade-old horror comedy featuring Anna Kendrick.
Back in 2014, Ryan Reynolds did a satirical psychological horror comedy film that sure deserves a spot on this year’s Halloween watchlist.

Ryan Reynolds and Anna Kendrick's 2014 film, The Voices, can leave anyone confused at how overlooked it is. It is one of those films that develop a cult following long after its release. In this dark comedy, the actor played a sometimes good, sometimes evil schizophrenic serial killer, and despite its lukewarm reviews upon release, it is easily one of Ryan Reynolds’ most brilliant performances to date.
Director Marjane Satrapi skillfully crafted The Voices into a blend of horror and thriller, all while sprinkling in laughs throughout. Alongside Reynolds' powerhouse performance, viewers were treated to Anna Kendrick’s delightful presence, who has also teamed up with Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, in a black comedy that is about to welcome a sequel soon. But, this is not the only horror gem Reynolds has to offer.
There is one particular horror movie Reynolds did that turned his feelings about scary films upside down and inside out.

While Ryan Reynolds may be a superstar today, back in 2000, he had to grind his way up through a few misfires, including the horror film The Amityville Horror. Ironically, the behind-the-scenes drama from that film lingered in the public consciousness far longer than the movie itself ever did. Reynolds was never a horror aficionado, but his actual filming experience in this movie scared him away from the genre forever.
Reynolds has been on record admitting that the film's creepy shooting location sent shivers down his spine, and the dark role took a toll on his psyche. At one point during the filming, he became so immersed in a scene that he reportedly slapped his young co-star, Jesse James. While fans might love for a return of Reynolds to the horror genre, it seems unlikely to materialize after such a haunting experience.
