The debate has raged far too long about who could be the next 007 after the man who became synonymous with James Bond, Daniel Craig, left the throne empty. When asked about the growing fanfare around James to step into Bond’s polished shoes, The White Lotus star swerved the question smoother than a 007 car chase, armed with a cheeky dose of Greek humor.

During a recent conversation on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Josh Horowitz redirected the 007 spotlight on none other than Theo James. The host asked whether James himself enjoys the Bond rumors or if it is more of a thrill to his friends and family, wondering if his inner circle encourages him to go for it. However, James insists there is no such buzz, but if it were, they first would want to know if it is a joke. That said, one did tease, calling him the first “Bond-opolis,” the Greek Bond.

James then doubled down, explaining James Bond speculation has not really been a hot topic among his friends and family. Slightly taken aback, Horowitz playfully pressed further, jokingly asking if he had never stood before a mirror, perfecting his delivery of the iconic, “Bond, James Bond.” But James, ever the master of sharp wit, did not miss a beat on the Bond banter. With a mischievous grin, he quipped, “Only in front of you, my friend,” sending Horowitz into fits of laughter.

Though Theo James and his circle may not have given momentum to the James Bond rumors, if he were to be cast, would it be an easy journey?

With Amazon taking control over the James Bond franchise, plenty of possibilities surround the narrative of 007. But the one that has kept fans on their toes is the question about who gets to play the next Bond. While several names have surfaced by now, Theo James is one of the rare few who refuses to die down. Considering he had his breakthrough in Hollywood with the Divergent film series, James is quite able to shoulder the responsibility of another film franchise.

The Oxford native exudes the rugged British charm reminiscent of Bond, and his role in Netflix’s crime drama, The Gentlemen, is a testament to his ease with the genre. Adding to his repertoire, he has also lent his voice to Marvel’s X-Men ‘97, proving he can don the cape of hero just as effortlessly. While James steers clear of the speculation, time will tell if he continues to keep his distance from the conversation.
