The Witcher 4 Is Getting a “Big Part” of Cyberpunk 2077 Developers After Phantom Liberty Expansion
The Witcher is one of those rare franchises that boasts all forms of engagement a fan could have. First came the Polish novel that got translated into English, giving readers more freedom and options. Secondly, the video game format followed, giving all gamers the chance to leave the pages and explore the fantasy land on their gaming screens. Lastly, Henry Cavill and the cohort of intricately woven characters landed on our Netflix screens. While Pedro Pascal’s Last of Us and others followed a similar format of who came first: video game or the show, Geralt of Rivia has definitely toured different formats longer than its counterparts.
In new updates from the developers of the game, its team is getting a huge chunk of Cyberpunk 2077’s developers.

Back in 2022, the developers of the game, based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s books, announced a new saga that they would embark on. After the first three games, CD Projekt revealed its intentions to start a new trilogy. Named Polaris, CEO Adam Kiciński confirmed that they would be “moving a big part” of the Cyberpunk 2077 game developers over to the Polaris team. While it boasts the largest expansion for Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty, they have some big ideas brewing for Sapkowski’s novel-based spin-off game. Notably, Phantom Liberty had 300 developers working on the game in July 2023.
Adding to this, Kiciński said, “That’s fewer than at the end of 2022, but it still remains our biggest team.” Nevertheless, the growth of the team for Polaris has been steadily going uphill. While Cyberpunk 2077’s game boasted a dwindling number of 300, Polaris climbed to 260 people on its team. Moreover, after Phantom Liberty is released, an even larger chunk of creative minds will shift to work on Geralt’s game.
Once Henry Cavill had even joked about the similarity between an episode of the show and the game, but it still stands differentiated in its production. And that is clear in this distribution of resource between the two games.
While one may wonder about the popularity of the games compared to the series, it is just as good as its other formats.

Holding true to its roots, a Polish game developer worked behind the Polish book-based games. With three games on its shelf, the third edition, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, sold a whopping 50 million units. Since its release in 2015, it shares the position of being one of the bestselling games with other giants in the gaming industry.
To name a few, it climbed the ranks of Red Dead Redemption 2 and even the classic Mario Kart’s Mario Kart 8+Deluxe. It is only topped by the legendary GTA, Minecraft, and Tetris.
