The Time Donald Trump Was Allegedly ‘Begged’ to Make a Cameo in Chris Columbus’ 'Home Alone 2'
Before Donald Trump became US President, he was a regular on TV shows and in films. Over the years, the Republican candidate managed to land at least a walk-on role in many popular movies. One such film where Trump made a cameo was Chris Columbus and John Hughes’ 1992 hit Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. However, while the movie brought in massive numbers, becoming the third-highest-grossing film of 1992, Donald Trump's cameo was not as smooth sailing as it seemed.
The story behind how Trump ended up in that cameo resulted in a lot of controversy, with both sides telling their own version of events.

Last year, Donald Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, claiming that the Home Alone 2 production team had been "begging" him to appear in the film. Apparently, the production had rented out the Plaza Hotel, which was owned by the former president at the time. Despite being busy, it was the requests from the production team that eventually convinced Trump to agree to a cameo. “They were very nice, but above all, persistent,” he said.
This post was a response to director Chris Columbus’ comments about Trump’s cameo. In an interview with Business Insider, Columbus shared how aggressive Trump had been in pushing to get into the sequel to the hit comedy. He also expressed that the production team had no choice but to work with Trump, as he was the owner of the Plaza Hotel at the time. “He did bully his way into the movie,” said the Harry Potter director. But that was not the end of this drama.
Back in 2019, Trump’s cameo in Home Alone 2 sparked a new controversy. His cameo was removed from a CBC broadcast, which drew criticism from both the politician and his son.

During Christmas 2019, Canadian viewers of the Home Alone sequel noticed that Donald Trump’s cameo was missing from the movie. While CBC spokesman Chuck Thompson explained that eight minutes of the 120-minute film had been trimmed to make room for commercials, Donald Trump Jr. tweeted that the edit was “pathetic,” accusing it of being politically motivated.
Thompson later clarified to Trump supporters that the edits had been made back in 2014, before Trump was even elected, and therefore, were not politically motivated. Even the former Celebrity Apprentice host weighed in on the issue with a tweet, saying, “The movie will never be the same! (just kidding).” Despite the drama, the cameo is still all over the web, with many fans continuing to enjoy it even today.
