Back in November 1997, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith decided to commit to each other for life. As the actor chose to propose in a more private and intimate setting, he had not come prepared. Their engagement happened on the same day they found out they were expecting their first child together, Jaden Smith. With the proposal being so sudden, the actress ended up not getting a ring.

However, 10 years later, the 55-year-old actor ended up gifting his wife a 12-carat stunner. It was a Graff diamond ring with baguette stones on both sides. The ring even reportedly cost the actor about $250,000. After a long wait, the actor seemed to combine her engagement and even push presents into one and purchase the sparkly ring. While he may have outdone himself with the ring, it was not The Matrix star’s first.

Once Jada’s memoir, Worthy, came out last year, it was revealed that the actress had initially decided to buy her own engagement ring shortly after the Bad Boys actor popped the question.

Just last year, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith took over headlines due to the Red Table Talk host’s book tour. While she reacted to the slap gate incident, her Worthy memoir also shared why she had bought her engagement ring. She revealed that it was her way to retain control and prepare herself for what was to come. It was her way of telling herself to “get with the program.”

Just the day after the star’s proposal, she went out and bought “a nice-sized pear-shaped diamond set in a platinum band.” While her ring might have been stunning, there is no doubt it paled in comparison to the ring bought by the King Richard star.
