“The point is making people uncomfortable” – Before Marvel Debut, Sydney Sweeney Comes to Sam Levinson’s Rescue Amidst ‘The Idol’ Backlash
From the unhinged depiction of drug usage to intimacy, Euphoria uses the lack of an upright censor board in the United States to its full advantage. But as director Sam Levinson cut out The Idol from the same cloth, audiences began to question the heightened debauchery and the safety of the actors involved. And who would know Levinson and his sets better than the breakthrough star of Euphoria, Sydney Sweeney?
Euphoria brought Sydney Sweeney success and popularity that all of her movies and shows spanning more than a decade could not bring collectively. But the show is now facing backlash owing to the creator’s unabashedness and while she is yet to make her superhero debut, Sweeney has come to the rescue.

Sam Levinson with Euphoria established himself as a courageous director who was willing to show addiction, sexuality, and relationships for what they were. But perhaps the analytics report that reached him was tweaked because The Idol was devoid of all that. Instead, Levinson used an excessive amount of borderline violent intimate scenes that made audiences worry about the actors involved in his shows. But the breakthrough star of Euphoria debunked any such claims and even supported the director. In an interview with Variety, Sydney Sweeney said, “The point is making people uncomfortable, and thinking outside the box.”
This is strong coming from the Euphoria actress because her fans are a testament to the criticisms she has received for her unclad scenes on live television. But Sydney Sweeney views it differently. According to her, this unadulterated expression has only made her more confident.
Sweeney took the example of Zendaya and other actors from the sets of Euphoria who have had no such complaints while working with the director. Her steadfast support for Sam Levinson and uncaged views towards the expression of art, makes fans wonder what Euphoria Season 3 might entail.

Same Levinson learned a thing or two about cliffhangers from Season 1. The first season ended on a depressing note as Rue dived back into addiction. And while she was still the main character in Season 2, Sweeney, Alexa Demie, and Jacob Elordi enjoyed a good part of the limelight.
With Elordi’s character calling the cops on his father and Maude Apatow’s play wreaking havoc, there is a lot to unravel in Season 3 of Euphoria. But while fans have an eye out for the plot with the release of The Idol and the backlash on Sam Levinson, it will be interesting to see if he maintains the same unabashed approach for Euphoria Season 3.
