'The Office' Reboot: A No Show For Steve Carell Leaves Fans Surprisingly Happy
The Office was iconic for more than one reason. It was not only one of its kind of a show that mimicked the feeling of a documentary, but it was also a more realistic one that hit closer to home than any other average sitcom. A large segment of the population had turned their backs on traditional sitcoms, and The Office provided a much-needed breath of fresh air to that. Now a decade after the show came to a close, it is staging for a reboot. But will it be able to create the same magic is the question that has been on fans’ minds?
Especially, without its main, Steve Carell, who has recently confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that he “will not be showing up” in the reboot. Thanks to the huge popularity of this workplace comedy, loads of spin-offs and reboots tried to capture the magic of the original mockumentary, but none quite hit the mark as a must-watch. As Greg Daniels reportedly took it upon himself to create another Office, it has been confirmed that the untitled reboot will not be tied to Dunder Mifflin.

The gears are set to start turning in July for the new series. And so far, the reports have spilled that Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore are set to headline the fresh cast. While who they are playing and who else is joining the crew is a mystery, it seems clear that the OG gang will not be a part of it. Strangely enough, fans seem to be ever more excited knowing that the mains, including Steve Carell, will not make a return.
Fans took to X with appreciation for the Crazy Stupid Love actor's choice not to return to The Office.
Fans do not want to see Steve Carell’s comeback to The Office
It goes without saying that Steve Carell is a comedic genius. And his Michael Scott, more often remembered for his comedic mishaps, was the cornerstone of the show's success. The actor bowed out in season 7 to chase his big-screen dreams, which left many fans disheartened. However, now the idea of him returning in The Office’s reboot has left them feeling it would ruin their fond recollection of Michael Scott.
Fans have also already predicted that the reboot is going to fail, before it even began production.
It seemed fans are too skeptical of the show, with or without the association of Steve Carell.

Carell's decision not to return to the show was explicitly stated by him in the interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He said, "It’s just a new thing and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that”. This statement also implies that none of the other cast members will be making a comeback. With a completely fresh approach, only time will tell if the reboot will honor the legacy of the original, The Office.
