Not many on-screen couples receive the green light from the audience for being unmistakably genuine, but the famously known ‘lobsters’, Jennifer Aniston, and David Schwimmer, have always been among the few. Their screen romance written for the books was as sincerely enacted as a mirror-view reflection of a modern-day love saga. As a result, not only were they received with open arms but their benchmark moments of romance curated a template for imagination beyond love, like a fan-imagined Kit Kat ad.

In 2024, an Aniston-Schwimmer commercial is not something alien for viewers worldwide since Uber Eats has already delivered that platter of delight. But rewind to a few years, this viewer-inspired Kit Kat advertisement idea got a thumbs up from the brand as well.

In a world of uncertain connections with a generation inclining to situationships, Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer remain ‘lobsters’ for fans worldwide. Having wooed the audience with their surreal partnership, their iconic “we were on a break” scene made space in one of the enthusiast’s imagination to compile a Kit Kat commercial. In an interestingly dreamy turn of events, when the fan posted the concept read on her X (formerly Twitter) handle, the idea made a pass-check for the brand itself.

In 2018, an X (formerly Twitter) user, Z☯︎Ë, took her chances to propose a pitch for a Kit Kat ad campaign featuring Aniston and Schwimmer on her social. The idea was rather cheeky with Schwimmer leading up to the signature catchphrase of Kit Kat “Have a break” with “Do you ever need a break?”. On the contrary, Aniston, picking up the playful allusion, responded, “We were on a break”. Therefore, what seemed to have been a casual framework for Kit Kat’s promo from a Friends devotee instead obtained clearance for the marketing department.

As a Friends reference can never make it in hush-hush, the post soared to heights of exposure and traffic from fans worldwide after the go-ahead.

Fans laud the ad creator for her out-of-the-box imagination

When Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer’s infamous “we were on a break” scenario broke out, the conflict was relatable enough to reach beyond the tides of a reel world. But who would have ever imagined a Kit Kat ad based on it? Owing to its unique and original approach, the fan who proposed the Friends-esque Kit Kat idea made a name for the proposition. Although the ad never came into actuality, fans right now must be thankful that the Uber Eats ad compensated for it at least.

Some fans gave the creator of the idea a good tap on the back, while others reminded Kit Kat to not forget her royalty.

Years later, however, one knows by the updates that the pitch never made it to reality despite its unique motto. Although there remains no doubt that the concept would have led to a frenzy in the market with a flux in demand, it makes everyone wonder why it never came true. Whatever the reason may be, let’s hope Kit Kat backtracks and finds this gem of a pitch yet again, this time, with a stronger commitment to manifest the lobster crossover.
