But the slippy slopes of showbiz have an undying penchant for retrospection and the recent entertainment bid for revival landed headfirst on the fan-favorite supernatural drama Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Though remakes undergo perilous challenges like persuading the existing audience about the up-and-coming, the recent row of reboot reports had fans urging Joss Whedon’s comeback.

According to a recent report by Deadline citing sources, Buffy the Vampire Slayer has set its sights on a remake two decades after the original seven-season series concluded. With a new chapter in the franchise, this follow-up show is nearing a pilot order from Hulu, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially reprising her role as Buffy Summers. A lifelong Buffy fan and Oscar-winner Chloe Zhao will direct the pilot written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Studio 20th Television and Searchlight TV has agreed on a pre-production deal for the remake. Apart from the pilot order, the reboot will begin in a writer's room soon, meaning both Hulu and the involved studios have great expectations for the upcoming remake. However, Buffy creator Joss Whedon, who wrote the 1992 movie the series followed, reportedly has no involvement in the reboot, having been out of showbiz in an official capacity since 2001.

Remakes and adaptations often face fan friction and resistance over concerns about accuracy and a loss of original charm. However, in the case of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival, the controversy centered on Joss Whedon’s lack of involvement in the project.
