From the moment Henry Cavill began his Hollywood journey, most filmmakers saw his immense potential, especially when it came to fantasy-based projects. Due to his affinity for fantasy cinema and literature, he understood fans’ expectations for such projects. This led to him landing one of his most acclaimed roles as Charles Brandon on The Tudors television series in 2007. After wrapping up the hugely popular series in 2010, The Witcher actor joined another adventure-fantasy project in 2011, Immortals.

During the shooting of Immortals, he was introduced to a unique way of familiarizing himself with his character.

During a promotional interview for Immortals with Empire Magazine in 2011, Cavill dived into the process of filming the Greek mythology-based flick. He explained how “one of the most wonderful” aspects of working on the movie was how the director, Tarsem Singh had elaborately designed the sets. According to him, understanding the “environment” his character lived in was an “essential quality” to deliver a convincing performance.

Apparently, Singh went as far as to create “miniature sets” that helped the actors imagine how the backdrop would be filled in through green screen editing. Before filming, he would take the lead cast through 4-hour sessions explaining the script. This included showing them everything from the miniature sets, down to the artwork hanging on the walls. This made it “that much easier” for Cavill to imagine the tone and backdrop of a scene.

Such extended efforts led Cavill to deliver an astonishing delivery that caught the attention of his next fantasy flick’s director.

Just last month, Zack Snyder spoke of Cavill’s early days and how he came across his Man of Steel lead. In an interview with a Hollywood Reporter, the renowned DCU director explained how the 40-year-old’s relevance sky-rocketed after he appeared in Immortals. According to Snyder, Immortals was the first project that established Cavill as a true “movie star.

Considering all the efforts the British actor had put into getting fit for Immortals, his physique alone had captured the attention of many fans. At the time, his impressive fitness was evidently perfect to take on the role of a jacked superhero like Superman. So, it can be said that Immortals led him to bag his biggest comic-based fantasy film to date.
