“That was not cool…”- 7 Years After Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck’s ‘Batman vs Superman’, Director Zack Snyder Blames Fans for the Film’s Bad Reception
Post its release in 2016, Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice was welcomed with poor reviews. Snyder revealed in a Q&A at the Full Circle charity event that people polarized his movie. The moderator questioned him about the layers the movie has to which he responded, that fans went to see only a superhero film and did not pay attention to the details in it. “…..heavily layered, experiential modern mythological superhero movie that needs…that you really need to pay attention to. That was not cool [for them],” Snyder said as reported by The Direct. If only fans were mindful and attentive enough to watch the movie, they would have understood his vision. At least this is what Snyder believes in.
His comments are a clear indication that he has made his peace with all the negative reviews his movie got, despite him adding ‘the layers’ to it. He also added that he did not deliver a generic superhero for the audiences and it was important for them to level up, in order to comprehend the aesthetics, imagery, and symbolism of the same.
