“That was crazy”- Hollywood’s Action Maestro Henry Cavill Reveals His “hardest” Set Piece Amongst All of His High-Octane Movies
Henry Cavill has emerged as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after leading men. His latest major release was the action-packed comedy Argylle, helmed by director Matthew Vaughn for Apple TV+. Cavill has also been tapped for the Highlander remake and a live-action take on Warhammer 40,000. Furthermore, he has lined up to headline Guy Ritchie’s highly anticipated World War II black comedy actioner, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, hitting screens on April 19th, 2024. These projects are set to seal Cavill’s status as a heavyweight in the action genre.
This reputation, however, was not served to Cavill on a silver platter. The British actor recently talked about the toughest challenge he endured as an action hero, which goes back to a movie from years ago.

Following the premiere of Argylle, Henry Cavill joined an exclusive post-screening Q&A session hosted by Collider. During the discussion led by Steve Weintraub, Cavill was asked about the “hardest thing” he did as an action star. In response, Cavill pointed to the helicopter scene in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. “That was crazy“, said Cavill. He also revealed that Tom Cruise handled all the real action by piloting the helicopter while Cavill merely hung out at the back of another one.
Comparing his experiences, Cavill shared that working with Matthew Vaughn in Argylle has been exceptionally vast, featuring innovative set pieces every time, which kept it thoroughly engaging. Having worked with Cruise, Cavill initially thought action sequences could not surpass that level, but Matthew Vaughn proved otherwise. Henry Cavill once also praised the innovative approach to action sequences that Vaughn brought to life in Argylle.
While this new method demanded additional collaboration from the actors, it ultimately elevated the quality of the action sequences in the film.

The movie begins with an electrifying action sequence on a train, as Wilde defends Elly against her attackers. Throughout the intense brawl, Elly imagined herself as the character Argylle. This creative technique necessitated Sam Rockwell and Cavill’s presence in every minute of the scene for seamless editing. While this new way of filming action sequences required both actors to work harder than usual, it also enabled them to share the load.
Undoubtedly, it was no easy task to pull off. However, in his first Entertainment Weekly interview discussing the film, Cavill shared that he “enjoyed it” and “it was a good challenge“. While the experiences on both sets were distinct and varied, Cavill undoubtedly honed his abilities as a Hollywood action star, a progression fans can anticipate seeing in his upcoming projects.
