"Terrible"- Not Just Heathcliff, Jacob Elordi’s Casting in the Iconic Patrick Bateman Role Is Also Drawing Sharp Criticism

A couple of years ago, Jacob Elordi was the rom-com heartthrob we all secretly swooned over, thanks to his role as the ultimate bad-boy-finding-his-softer-side-arc in The Kissing Booth. But then, he decided to take the ‘bad boy’ act a little too seriously and gave us Euphoria. As much as we love to hate him in that role, he did become the hottest name on film lovers' lips following the HBO show. Now, though, as he dives into more challenging roles, fans are starting to wonder if he is the right fit for most of them.

For quite some time now, rumors have been circulating that Luca Guadagnino is considering Jacob Elordi for the role of Patrick Bateman in the upcoming American Psycho remake. Unlike the original, this version will not take place in the 1980s. Instead, it will be a modern-day reimagining of Bret Easton Ellis’ famous novel. According to the ongoing rumors, the filmmakers believe Elordi is a good fit for the role. Even popular insider TheInSneider confirmed these rumors in his latest newsletter.

Jacob Elordi has never worked with Luca Guadagnino before. However, the two recently teamed up for a Chanel No. 5 ad campaign alongside Margot Robbie- with whom Elordi is also about to star in the upcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation. And this literary classic’s adaptation, much like this potential American Psycho remake, has also raised some controversy over the casting choices. Now, fans are asking the filmmakers to reconsider their decision to cast Elordi as Patrick Bateman.

3 Reasons Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie Are Not the Pair to Head a Wuthering Heights Project

Not only that, many fans have also suggested their own choices for who they think would be a better fit for the role of the iconic Christian Bale character, instead of Jacob Elordi.

Fans are not on board with Jacob Elordi as Patrick Bateman

Jacob Elordi has been everywhere lately. Over the past two years, he has secured a string of back-to-back blockbusters, including Saltburn, Priscilla, the upcoming Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein, and soon, he will be seen in Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights, which just announced its filming schedule. However, this non-stop presence seems to have caused an ‘Elordi fatigue.’ Now, fans are starting to feel ‘bored’ of seeing him everywhere, and this has led many to label the idea of casting the 27-year-old as Patrick Bateman as “terrible".

Lots of fans have thrown out some alternative options for who should play Patrick Bateman in the American Psycho remake, instead of Elordi.

It is pretty clear that fans are not exactly sold on the idea of Elordi in the Patrick Bateman role. That said, there has been no official confirmation from the filmmakers yet, so there is still time for the makers to rethink things. And if they care about winning fans’ approval on the casting- they sure have got enough room to make some changes and explore other casting possibilities.
