“This character matters so much to so many.” Henry Cavill once recalled and brought to the fore that he was well aware of the importance of Superman to the audience. Donning the red cape and swooshing past theater screens with a sonic boom, the actor made every second of his presence felt on screen with 2013’s Man of Steel. However, ten years later, he was shown the door by the new DC chief, James Gunn. Yet, one place where no one can oust him from is fans’ hearts.

Although divisive in reception, it was without a doubt that Cavill was the most physically accurate Superman. Fans recently took to Twitter to voice their “honest opinions” on the British actor’s stint of justice. In a largely unanimous vote, fans highly believed that no matter who came as a replacement, Henry Cavill would forever stay the best.

Zack Snyder’s take on Superman had The Witcher actor take on a gritty and dark tone of the character. While it gave him sufficient screen time, it hardly left much room for him to smile. Regardless, the 40-year-old shone in fierceness as he deftly embodied Superman’s ethos of hope and justice. Even if critics were hard to please, the visually striking and high-action pace of the movie cemented Cavill’s prowess to command the screens.

Unfortunately, the actor’s take and Snyder’s approach faltered in ratings. Trying to depict an inexperienced Superman, the director focused heavily on collateral destruction that left critics fuming at the sharp departure from the comics. Moreover, recently, the new DC co-chief, James Gunn, booted Henry Cavill out of his new DC canon. Yet, did he truly oust him?
