10 Canceled Netflix Shows That Still Have Fans Aching for Them

Many Netflix originals, from gripping dramas to wild comedies, became fan favorites, but the streamer unfortunately canceled some too soon, before they could finish their stories. Fans who were hooked on these shows felt like the news of the cancellation, like a punch to the gut. The worst part is that these Netflix originals were not even bad. They were so entertaining and catch that they have left fans craving for more. 

No matter which character you fell for that plot twist that kept you up or simply something about the show itself that pulled you towards it, these shows, now being canceled, have left gaps to be filled.

Critics and viewers alike both applauded GLOW for its writing, great acting, and the way it effortlessly brought humor into very serious themes. Sadly, however, Netflix canceled GLOW after three seasons, abandoning the planned fourth season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This left viewers disappointed and the story open-ended. This sudden end, which offered no closure, just left fans wanting more, as the series still had much more to explore.

Lockwood & Co.

The Lockwood & Co., despite its interesting storyline and positive reviews, got canceled after just one season, leaving fans heartbroken. This cancellation came as more of a hit to viewers because the hurried end to the series left many unfinished plot threads. It also raised heated talks about Netflix's pattern of ending shows prematurely. 

Dead Boy Detectives

When Netflix launched Dead Boy Detectives, a supernatural show, it easily gained attention for its unusual premise and appealing characters. The series was to follow the story of Charles Rowland and Edwin Payne, two young spirits who stayed on Earth during their afterlife to solve paranormal mysteries. Despite the show's good reviews, it was canceled after one season citing reasons of a strategic shift in Netflix's content strategy and low viewership. 

Santa Clarita Diet

The cancellation of Santa Clarita Diet is a perfect example of a show that ended just when it was making its mark, leaving viewers wanting closure for the story and characters they had come to love. To make things worse, the show ended on a cliffhanger ending, leaving fans even more confused and sad. 

The Dark Crystal

The Dark Crystal was a known Netflix original, hailed especially for its way of storytelling and breathtaking visuals, but due to high production costs and the COVID-19 pandemic challenges as cited by Netflix, the series had to be cut out after just one season. For those who have not experienced the story of The Dark Crystal, it is a tale of fantasy and adventure that pulls you into a completely different world with its visuals. Though it was canceled, you can still stream the first and only season on Netflix and find out what the hype was all about. 

I Am Not Okay With This

Sydney's life takes a turn for the worse in the last episode of I Am Not Okay With This, as she finally discovers her telekinetic powers, and leaves her family and friends after being overridden with guilt. This cliffhanger left fans waiting for another season, but all they got was the news of its cancellation, bumming them out. 

1899

The last episode of the last season of 1899 ended on a jaw-dropping cliffhanger, with one of the passengers waking up on a futuristic spacecraft in the year 2099, greeted by a message that challenges everything they believe to be true. But, no one will ever know the message or what follows, as Netflix canceled it after only one season. The tension of the unanswered questions and storylines continued to fuel fan theories and discussions, as fans tried to get to the bottom of the story themselves. 

Shadow and Bone

In the magical lands of Ravka, in Shadow and Bone, the discovery of Alina Starkov to summon the sun brought life to a tale full of magic, intrigue, and destiny. But, unfortunately, it ran only two seasons before Netflix took away the show, citing production costs as well as the viewership counts as factors and disappointing its loyal fanbase. 

The Society

In Netflix's The Society, a group of teenagers come back from a field trip and find out that all the adults are missing, and how they adapt by forming their own society to survive while trying to find the adults. This intriguing and different concept of the show was sadly not enough to keep the show going after one season, as COVID-19 hit and shut down its renewal for a second season. 

The Midnight Club

The Midnight Club landed a new experience for the audience with a fresh take on life and death. With both horror and drama, the show followed eight young terminally ill soldiers who formed a club and met in secret to share their haunting stories. However, in spite of its fresh ideas, and take on thriller shows, it was canceled just after one season leaving the characters' journey incomplete.

These Netflix original shows are a mixture of unforgettable characters or storylines that did not get the chance to live the whole length of their life due to circumstances. Maybe someday, Netflix will listen to the fans and bring them back, but for now, all you can do is keep the memories alive.
