At 26 years of age, Sydney Sweeney has amassed sufficient fame to her name. Hailing from the relatively quiet town of Spokane, the actress has struggled great odds to have her ends met and achieve success as an actor. Following her widely acclaimed roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus, she made her big-budget Hollywood foray alongside Glen Powell in the 2023 winter rom-com, Anyone but You. A couple of months later, she is standing yet again on the verge of great success for Sony’s Madame Web.

Sharing the screen with a star-studded all-female protagonists cast, she ensured to make heads turn her way during the red-carpet premiere of the flick.

Sydney Sweeney calls the spotlights as she swings into Madame Web’s premiere

Starring as the first-ever live-action Spider-Woman aka Julia Carpenter, Sydney Sweeney will make her comic book movie debut with Madame Web. Scheduled for release on February 14, the Sony flick will have her showcase her acting abilities as she enters the wider Marvel universe. Taking to the premiere of the same in Los Angeles, the young actress wore an Oscar de la Renta strapless, custom gown with a crescent neckline and a nude underlay textured to resemble a web.

Donning a gown of primarily black color but accentuated by its underlying skin tassels, she commanded her presence in style. Taking to her Instagram, she shared a carousel of photos from the event. Sharing the stage with co-stars including Dakota Johnson, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor, her attire and charisma quite resembled her suit’s details as showcased in the official posters. Finally, with rings, black nails, and smooth wavy blonde hair, the actress flaunted her way into the theater.

A few hours after the premiere, however, a ring of startling developments came forth for the actress.

Madame Web debuts to sub-par expectations with poor ratings

Madame Web opened for critical previews a day before its release. However, soon after, a wave of disappointments came ringing in as the flick debuted to a mere 23% on Rotten Tomatoes. With 31 reviews, the movie already sealed itself as one of the lowest-rated Marvel projects ever for Sony, although ahead of 2022’s Morbius. A flawed storyline and lack of chemistry between the stars came forth as the primary reason for the downfall.

Even as the score may improve following its wider screenings tomorrow, critics say otherwise. The score soon slipped further and now sits at 22% with a few additional reviews. The worrying scenario stands as a major concern for Sony’s plans to launch its own Marvel universe without Spider-Man. Regardless, a better picture may form post the movie’s drop.
