Sydney Sweeney’s upcoming biopic role is not just a new chapter in her career but a complete departure from the characters she has played before. She is about to step into the ring as Christy Martin in a boxing biopic, through which fans will get to see the actress’s passion for combat sports for the first time, along with her acting chops. As per an update from Tona B. Dahlquist Casting’s Facebook page, the untitled project will be filmed in Charlotte from late September to mid-November.

Dahlquist Casting is also looking for some background actors for the David Michôd-directed film, as per their post. For those who may not know, Sydney Sweeney is trained in martial arts and has some kickboxing experience as well. Given the kind of stardom Sweeney has reached in recent years, the actress could have very well played it safe and stuck to familiar territory. However, the 26-year-old is willing to consistently try new roles. Sweeney first revealed her combat skills in 2018 to Marie Claire, just before her Euphoria debut.
Later on, Sweeney also shared why she had to step away from the sport because of the very HBO show that put her on the map.

Sydney Sweeney appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2022 and opened up about her mixed martial arts roots. The actress revealed that it was her mom and dad who encouraged her to "fall in love with as many things as possible". She took up the sport at 14 and entered her first competition at 18. Sweeney got "very into" fighting and even trained with Ronda Rousey's MMA coach.

Following the massive attention and fame she garnered after Euphoria, however, Sweeney had to put her MMA training on ice. “Unfortunately, you sign a little piece of paper that says you’re not to do X, Y, and Z and I am all of X, Y, and Z,” she told on The Kelly Clarkson Show. Fortunately, it seems the rising star will get to put her combat skills to the test once more with the upcoming boxing biopic.
