Sydney Sweeney has sparked heartfelt conversations online with her honest journey towards coming to terms with her body during her teenage years and beyond. The 25-year-old shot to stardom internationally in 2019 for her role as Cassie Howard in Euphoria. While she received praise for her nuanced performance, unfortunately, some ended up hypersexualizing her, much like her character on screen. Nevertheless, through her experiences, the actress has now learned to wholeheartedly "embrace" her femininity, as she told Glamour UK last year. And it is precisely this newfound confidence that drew her to the upcoming project, Barbarella

Recently, Sydney Sweeney opened up about the portrayal of sexuality in the upcoming sci-fi film, Barbarella, and why she was drawn to it.

Sydney Sweeney recently caught up with Josh Horowitz for a chat, where he asked her for any updates on playing the lead role in Barbarella. In response, Sweeney explained how the character “embraces her sexuality and femininity”, which adds an intriguing twist to the sci-fi genre. "I love that," said the actress. Horowitz also threw in the question of whether Edgar Wright might take the director's chair, given Sweeney's appearance with the filmmaker at the premiere of Immaculate.

To this, the actress played it coy, casually taking a sip from her drink without revealing anything. The 1968 film directed by Roger Vadim followed the journey of a futuristic astronaut as he confronted an evil scientist, which threatened cosmic harmony. Although not a commercial smash upon its release, the movie garnered a devoted fanbase over time, prompting Sweeney to not only act but also produce the movie. While not much is known about the upcoming project yet, there is one insight that Sweeney revealed last year.

In response, Sweeney said, "Of course, we’re gonna bring back iconic outfits. How can you not? It’s Barbarella". She added that the film is still in its early pre-production phase, but she is looking forward to delving deeper into the project. Despite Sweeney's excitement, as seen in her recent interview with Josh Horowitz, there are reports of Jane Fonda, the original actress, expressing reservations about the remake. Nevertheless, this project could still mark an interesting addition to Sweeney's sci-fi portfolio following the box office bomb, Madame Web.
