Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s electrifying chemistry led fans to push for a reunion of the pair on-screen. Therefore, as soon as reports of Powell being signed for the leading role of Ben Richards in Edgar Wright’s upcoming The Running Man surfaced, Anyone But You fans quickly started hoping for Sydney Sweeney to hop on board as well. However, it seems their hopes were a long shot.

A new report about the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's The Running Man has thrown cold water on all hopes of a reunion between Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell.

The Running Man novel's adaptation by Edgar Wright is sprinting into production, a project that the Shaun of the Dead filmmaker has been developing since 2021 alongside Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. It was confirmed back in April that Glen Powell is lacing up to play Ben Richards in the dark world of Stephen King. However, sadly, the rumors of Sydney Sweeney joining Powell in the movie could not materialize, as Collider recently denied all the reports.

In the upcoming The Running Man, fans hoped Sweeney would play Ben Richards’ wife, Sheila, who becomes a prostitute in the novel after the couple hits a financial bump. Given Sweeney’s knack for portraying emotionally complex characters, it would have been dream casting, indeed. Though the Anyone But You pair are not joining forces in The Running Man, the actors are anticipating a reunion with each other themselves.

Earlier this year, Sydney Sweeney hinted at a sequel to Anyone But You that both she and Glen Powell are brainstorming.

Anyone But You became a sleeper hit, grossing over $200 million last year. And a huge credit for the surprising success goes to the clever ‘fake-dating’ ploy that the actors employed in the movie’s marketing. However, it was also the chemistry between Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell that made their marketing strategy all the more believable. In a March interview with PEOPLE, the Euphoria star shared her plans of recreating the chemistry for round two.

“We're dreaming up a bunch of different ideas,” said Sweeney about a potential sequel to Anyone But You with Glen Powell. She also teased a sequel during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, saying that there is "maybe, like, a high nine chance" of a part two being made. While The Running Man hopes have most likely blown up in smoke, an Anyone But You sequel would definitely make up for the disappointment.
