Following the first teaser trailer release of Superman starring David Corenswet, Jeff Sneider and John Rocha on The Hot Mic podcast fanned the flames of a rumor mill about a recent not-so-great test screening of James Gunn’s 2025 release. Sneider claimed to have engaged with several people familiar with Superman’s test screening, stating, the “buzz is not good.” However, journalist Matias Lértora recently took to X to counter those rumors, revealing there had been no such screening for Superman in recent days.

“I know this from an excellent source,” Lértora backed up her confession, urging fans to steer clear of unfounded claims they read on the Internet. Although the pleading echoed Gunn’s words of wisdom, Lértora single-handedly lifted the lid of the gloom-filled skies, preparing to greet the new Last Son of Kryptonite. While the rumors also reported Gunn’s awareness of the feedback, Lértora’s findings worked their magic to save Superman.

The rumor that restricted James Gunn’s Superman flight

On this week’s episode of The Hot Mic podcast, hosts and Hollywood insiders Jeff Sneider and John Rocha stirred the Internet, sharing certain things they heard about a recent screening of James Gunn’s Superman. Rocha was reportedly informed that Superman’s tone echoes with Captain America: The First Avenger and The Mummy. Although Rocha’s source claimed Superman was “decent,” Sneider’s was unforgiving and saw reasons for worry.

Rocha shared that a huge part of the movie remains incomplete with “only a third of the film’s VFX done.” While Gunn already informed about the lack of Guardians of the Galaxy-level humor, Rocha lamented the “least amount” comic relief in the film. Although Sneider later noted that even if test screenings are lackluster, some movies are simply destined for greatness, thanks to Matias Lértora’s timely intervention, a potential box office bombshell was defused to avoid a super-sized embarrassment.
