Netflix fans are loving the array of law dramas on its platform right now. Not only are there brand new add-ons like The Lincoln Lawyer, but also all-time favorites like Suits. Meghan Markle shot to fame from her role as a stunning paralegal, Rachel Zane. And though Suits created a league of its own, it turned out to be a memorable one for the Duchess of Sussex, too. The Remember Me actress hung her paralegal and acting coat with the show. 

Fast forward four years after the show ended, the Suits creator revealed the one idea for which he would do the prequel in a heartbeat.

Netflix brought the Aaron Korsh American drama series on its platform in June. Lo and behold, the series garnered massive acclaim. The first six weeks worked like a charm, taking it up to the spot of the second most streamed series on the OTT platform. Following the show’s success, The Hollywood Reporter interviewed Korsh, a former investment banker turned TV producer, who happily obliged with new information about the show. The creator and writer of Suits revealed how he would do a Robert Zane spin-off “in a heartbeat.” 

The producer expressed how he had loved the idea of backtracking and exploring the father’s younger days. Korsh added, “I would do that in the second. I was really excited about that.” Robert Zane played the father of Meghan’s Rachel Zane on the show.

Played by Julliard-trained actor Wendell Pierce, the father had an equally enigmatic and fierce personality, like his on-screen daughter. He even took the fall for Rachel’s coworker, Harvey Specter, in the later parts of the show. This is not the first time the Suits creator has expressed his desire to make a prequel.

The idea of approaching a show that had already met a positive end is daunting. And Aaron Korsh agreed with that. But he was open to the idea of backtracking in the Zane family’s life. Moreover, the focus on the father of Rachel Zane gained more and more importance in the latter parts of the series. In an interaction with a fan on Twitter, the creator reiterated his wish. The fan asked if he would like to explore the Robert  Zane storyline more since “every scene you had with him Wendell took it.”

Korsh replied, saying how he had a similar idea for a prequel spinoff of the show, exploring the life of Zane as a fresh 90s law school graduate. But Suits’ network, USA Network, did not take up the idea. Perhaps it had something to do with the Duchess and her tumultuous relationship with her own father.
