‘Stranger Things’ Sensation Matthew Modine Says How This Iconic ‘Oppenheimer’ Scene Was Beyond His “belief”
Matthew Modine returned to the limelight when he first played the role of Dr. Brenner in Stranger Things. His character has made such an important contribution to the storyline that fans cannot forget him. From trending on social media for his performance to receiving awards for the same, he has become a household name in the industry. With this came an opportunity to work with iconic filmmaker Christopher Nolan in the blockbuster film Oppenheimer. Now the actor has shared his experience of witnessing history in the movie.
Shortly after the release of the biographical drama, Matthew Modine sat down with Observer to talk about it. The 64-year-old played the role of Vannevar Bush, who was the head of the U.S. Office of Scientific Research and Development during World War II. Several meetings about the atomic bomb project included this historical figure.

In the interview, he talked about one scene where a bunch of people discussed the development of bombs. The actor felt horrified at how a small group of men could decide the future of the world. For him, it was one of the most powerful yet dangerous things to witness in a room. “It’s beyond my comprehension and my belief that that’s how decisions are made,” added Modine.
The Birdy star also affirmed that the creator has depicted things in the movie that are historically correct. Fans would agree with this talented star considering the number of historic figures the creator included in the film to make it authentic. In fact, critics have praised this movie for remaining faithful to the real events. Meanwhile, this is not the first time Modine has worked on a project depicting human obsession with nuclear weapons.

The Stranger Things star recently executive-produced the documentary Downwind, which followed the tragedies of nuclear testing in America. The movie took place between 1951 to 1992 when 928 nuclear weapons exploded in rural New Mexico. It features a dynamic Latina businesswoman and cancer survivor, Tina Cordova, who shows courage to uncover the truth behind what this Trinity bomb cost human life.
The film has received a 100% rating on the aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes, while IMDb gave 6.5 out of 10. From what we have gathered from this historic adaptation about atomic projects, it is indeed the most dangerous and challenging thing any human could imagine doing.
