A handful of writers came out to speak about their share of issues with the studios and the AMPTP, and this eventually became the ongoing writer’s strike. The protest has affected many productions, with some even getting canceled. But the studios and streamers have their stand firm about the negotiations with the WGA. According to recent reports, the streamers and the studios have made a firm statement that enraged the WGA.

After 15 years, more than 10,000 writers in LA and New York raised their voices to give them professional security. Writers are asking for a more extended and proper contract that includes a fair share of economic stability as well. With the changing methods of providing entertainment in Hollywood, writers are suffering. Therefore, they had been on strike since early May. However, according to Deadline, the studios and streamers do not want to negotiate with the writers.

In a statement, one of the studio executives said, “The endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses.” Referring to this statement, one insider even considered it as cruel, but a necessary step to take to break the strike. These production houses believe having writers financially trapped would make them ask the WGA to restart the conversations. And because of that condition, the studios and streamers believe, it would open the writers to dictate the terms of a potential deal.

In light of this ongoing strike, the productions of many shows and films have been shut down. Meanwhile, production houses and streamers have shifted to unscripted streaming content. Even Netflix’s shows like Evil, Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, Yellowjackets, Abbott Elementary, and others got affected by the strike.

Writers’ strike also influenced Netflix shows to the core

Among Hulu, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, Apply TV+, and other streaming giants, Netflix also had to face the hit of the strike. Currently, while viewers are eagerly waiting for their favorite shows to come back with new seasons, Cobra Kai is one of them. The showmakers are actively participating in the strike and voluntarily stopped the production.
