“Spare ourselves the bother..”, Why Resorts Are Facing a Problem With Prince Harry’s Spare After Selling More Than 14,30,000 Copies
Prince Harry may have broken a record, but resorts want to be ‘spared’ now. When his memoir, Spare, first hit the market, it directly entered the Guinness Book of World Records for selling over one million copies on the first day. But the fastest-selling book had an equally fast-paced fall from glory. The after-effects of the launch have stressed more people than the royal family.
The book is a best-seller on Amazon and remained a trending topic for a while for its bold content. Everyone wanted to know the insights of the Prince’s life, especially during his turmoil. But selling more than 1.42 million copies seems to have created an unprecedented problem with hotels and resorts.

People seem to forget their copy of the Spare a bit too much. According to Express, resorts are growing tired of collecting the memoir from their properties as people are leaving them behind. Vacation properties in destinations like Greece, Turkey, and Spain have seen a rise in the books being left by the poolside, rooms, bins, or receptions. Travel specialists On The Beach have received so many sold copies that they are unsure what to do with them anymore.
Libraries and local bookstores are refusing to take any more copies, and there is a question of how the surplus can be disposed of. Chief Marketing Officer Executive Zoe Harris remarked, “spare ourselves the bother in the first place!.” The situation that seemed funny at first, has turned into a real problem now. One of their solutions is to give away copies on their website and social media pages.
The book may have helped the Prince earn a chunk since his Megxit move, but may not have left a desirable mark on its readers. Even its initial success skyrocketed due to the controversy surrounding it.

The estranged relationship between Prince Harry and the Royals is no secret. When the news of him writing a book came out, his family and its supporters were staunchly against it. The 38-year-old even paused its release for a while after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, but eventually released it on 10, Jan 2023.
It gives a different point of view from what the world saw as the Prince grew up in the limelight. The book exposes his relationship with his late mother Diana, estranged brother Prince William, and father King Charles. Regardless of its reception now, the book turned out to be a savior in the initial days of his new life in the USA.
