“So everything she was saying…” – Behind Sydney Sweeney and Her Revelation of Encountering the Real Reality Winner
The world of film and television is extremely vast, and new genres and formats appear every day. Nowadays, actors are trying not to be typecast and experiment with different formats. Sydney Sweeney, who appeared in famous dramedies like Euphoria and The White Lotus, is joining the list of stars who experiment. Hence, she chose the biopic based on the NSA whistleblower Reality Winner to give her career a new direction.
The actress worked really hard to bring the story of Winner to life on camera. However, the process of channeling into her character was a tough nut to crack. Since it is a biopic, people have a lot to compare between Sweeney and the real world. Hence, she had to work twice as hard as she does for her other characters. And to be as close to reality as possible, she met Winner in person to get to know her better.

Sweeney revealed that when she got the chance to meet Winner, she loved the fact that she speaks her mind. The 25-year-old told Variety, “So everything she was saying in the transcript, she was feeling and thinking. I was able to just find all the different layers underneath it.” Overall, she thoroughly enjoyed the conversation.
Though the script Sweeney received was based on the original transcript of Winner’s FBI interrogation, there was something else she needed to do to know the real Reality Winner.

The director of the film, Tina Satter, is completely devoted to this subject, also because it is her film direction debut. She has written a play on it called ‘Is This A Room,” which was a huge success; hence, she chose it to create a film. Hence, to make the film look as authentic as possible, she arranged a Zoom call between Winner and Sweeney.
Speaking about those, Sweeney revealed that she and Winner engaged in extensive and honest conversations. She asked her a few personal questions about her life and family and familiarized herself with the encounters Winner had during her FBI interrogation.

The film is a true verbatim account of what really happened with Winner during those hours of interrogation. However, she was courageous enough to talk about it and allow the makers to create a film about what happened to her.
