Long-time fans of Friends would remember Chandler Bing and Rachel Green bickering over and eating a cheesecake literally off the hallway. Bonhomie, trust, heartwarming interactions, and a potentially failed romantic arc surrounded the two characters on the show. Interestingly, in real life, Matthew Perry found the same in Jennifer Aniston. In talks with Diane Sawyer in 2022, the actor revealed that, in his fight against addiction, among the Friends cast, “She was the one that reached out the most.”
It is no secret that the wisecracking actor had a near-death experience back in 2018. While every member of the Friends star-cast was with him en route to recovery, his once-crush, Aniston shared most of her time. In his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, the actor revealed that he had a Cupid’s arrow stuck on Aniston even before the show. Additionally, he had also asked the actress out during their time on Friends, but they settled for being friends.
Despite his fun, sarcastic, and endearing persona on the show, Matthew Perry had a rather tough time in life. Further, whenever it came to love, the actor was anything but selfless.

The now 54-year-old actor was the youngest among the Friends cast at the start of the show back in 1994. Off cameras, things were bleak for Perry. In his quest for Aniston, he knew he had to let it go when she married Brad Pitt in 2000. However, there was one more Friends star that he was love-struck with it – guest actress, Julia Roberts.
An on-screen chemistry that ended in gags, the off-screen one had fans swallow tears. Notwithstanding a love that Perry famously said to be piles of poetries long, he had to let go of her because of his doubts about self-worth. The spiraling conditions had made him feel that he “was not enough” for Roberts. That mere thought ended what could have been a fateful love story.
