Meghan Markle has been in hot water ever since she fell in love with the Duke of Sussex. The world is aware of the fact that she did not have a smooth sail during her time as a royal member. With thousands of headlines from the press and controversial media narratives, Markle gave up her royalty, along with her husband, Prince Harry. However, with each step down the staircase of her regal abode, the controversies only appeared to gain even more prominence. 

Several royal sources have criticized the couple, especially the Duchess of Sussex, following the infamous Megxit. And now, a childhood friend of the late Queen Elizabeth has also jumped on the bandwagon. 

Meghan Markle received criticism from a friend of the late monarch 

Lady Glenconner, who has been a close companion of Queen Elizabeth for over 50 years, expressed her opinion on Meghan Markle as a duchess. Glenconner appeared in the Rosebud with Gyles Brandreth podcast, revealing that Markle did not understand much about the expectations people have from a royal member. “she had no idea what was expected of her really”, said the British socialite. She also added that Meghan thought the royal duties mainly involved “riding on a golden coach”, when in reality, it is “extremely boring”. 

Glenconner further shared that the 42-year-old thought her role as a duchess was “sort of like being another actress”. Glenconner, also known as Anne Tennant, Baroness Glenconner, also appeared in the third and fourth seasons of Netflix’s royal drama The Crown. The Netflix series revolves around the reign of Queen Elizabeth from 1940 to the early aughts. 

As the sixth season of the Netflix original is around the corner, Prince William expressed his discontent about the OTT giant. 

Prince William believes Netflix “ruthlessly exploited” the royal family 

After stepping down from their royal duties, the Sussexes experimented with a variety of deals to fulfill their financial requirements. While some of them did not pan out well, the Sussexes made a $100 million deal with Netflix. During this collaborative tenure, the Sussexes would be producing several films, documentaries, scripted shows, and more. This was wise of the couple, as they did not have the shadow of royalty over their heads anymore. However, it did not sit well with Prince William. 

A friend of the Prince of Wales told The Daily Beast that he was extremely upset with his brother’s collaboration with a company that “ruthlessly exploited” the royal family. The source also shared that Prince Willliam would not watch the upcoming installment of The Crown as he will be “totally sickened” by his mother’s portrayal on the show.
