Shawn Levy Spills How DC Horrors Inspired Him and Ryan Reynolds to Bring Henry Cavill to ‘Deadpool & Wolverine'
Deadpool & Wolverine was filled with Easter eggs and cameo surprises. But one particular cameo that made theaters roar with hooting and cheering was Henry Cavill as Cavillrine. The former Man of Steel played a Wolverine variant, passing from the world of DC Comics into the world of Marvel. Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, who is always aware he is in a movie, instantly cracks a fourth-wall-cracking joke, saying he would treat Cavill "so much better than those s--t f--ks down the street”. And it turns out, it was not just a fun gag.
The reason for Shawn Levy and Reynolds casting Henry Cavill in Deadpool & Wolverine was, in fact, his shaky history with DC.

Shawn Levy recently sat down for an interview with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast to discuss the cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine. The filmmaker shared that “the stuff that gone down with DC" and Henry Cavill led them to finalize the Man of Steel actor for a Wolverine variant cameo in the movie. Levy also shared that it was a “quick yes” from Cavill as well, who got so committed to the process that he got “sick.”
On the day of filming, Cavill got “jacked up” for his cameo and had to smoke a “disgusting cigar” for hours. While the Argylle star made it through, he got “sick to his stomach.” Even Ryan Reynolds shed light on Cavill’s cameo in a recent interview with Collider, saying, “It wasn't just a gag; it was a respectful and fun inclusion", a homage to the iconic Man of Steel. However, the DC jokes were not one-sided.
Henry Cavill himself recently took a jab at DC and his infamous mustache mess that occurred during his Superman movie.

Henry Cavill became a household name from his role as DCU’s beloved hero, Superman, in Man of Steel. The actor joined Zack Snyder’s Justice League as well, and it was during the shoot of the 2017 movie that Cavill’s mustache stirred up some controversy. While shooting the DC film, Cavill had grown a mustache for his Mission: Impossible feature, which he was not allowed to shave.
This led the studio to remove the mustache with the help of CGI, which Cavill allegedly was not in favor of. Therefore, when he recently shared an Instagram post featuring himself as Cavillrine, without a mustache, fans quickly understood the reference. Cavill wrote, “To be safe, I shaved the moustache off for this one. Just the moustache.” With Cavill’s DC run now over, the hope is that fans will get to see more of the legend in his new home, the MCU.
