Sex Education became the launching pad for many budding stars and elevated them into household names in the industry. Among the standout roles in the teen drama was Ncuti Gatwa’s performance as Eric Effiong. After becoming a familiar face through Laurie Nunn’s show, the actor went on to share the screen with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in one of the highest-grossing movies of the year, Barbie. Gatwa’s next venture is his lead role in the BBC show, Doctor Who, where he has created yet another history.

Ncuti Gatwa will be playing the fifteenth incarnation of the Doctor in the science fiction television series. Ahead of its release, the 31-year-old revealed an interesting update, promising the return of a late actor to the scene.

Ncuti Gatwa recently attended the Men of the Year ceremony for GQ Magazine. The actor shared his experience of being the first black male Time Lord while speaking to the Mirror on the red carpet. During the interview, Gatwa reluctantly shared that he “shot a scene, somehow, with the first-ever Doctor, William Hartnell”. The late actor William Hartnell, who played Doctor from 1963 to 1966, will “end up in the same scene together” with Gatwa.

Hartnell made his final on-screen appearance with The Three Doctors before he passed away in December 1975. Seeing the OG doctor after 52 years since his last on-screen appearance is bound to be a major highlight. But the question is, how? The means that could make this magic a reality is Artificial Intelligence. This technology has allowed people in the past to resurrect actors from the dead. This, however, became a major concern for actors who are still alive, leading to the historic Hollywood strikes.

Though now in the past, the powerful strikes are still casting a long shadow over Hollywood.

Why is the post-strike Hollywood still struggling?

The Hollywood strikes did not only result in considerable losses for people within the show business. It also had a ripple effect on individuals beyond its borders. As Arnold Schwarzenegger put it, the strikes “crippled the whole economy” of Los Angeles, and many local businesses faced a major dip owing to the uprisings. The impact was also evident on streaming giants like Netflix, which recently canceled five of its shows, including Six of Crows, to mitigate losses and stabilize their position.

The production delays that resulted from the strikes threw a wrench into the scheduling plans of production houses and streaming platforms. Additionally, it has also created a huge gap between seasons. As per a report from Deadline, many other cancellation decisions from OTT platforms could be in the pipeline given the period of increased financial scrutiny. Amid such an environment, only time will tell how fans will receive the return of the late actor, William Hartnell, to the show, if executed through the help of Artificial Intelligence.
