Arnold Schwarzenegger is synonymous with fitness or even the other way around. The 76-year-old bodybuilding legend has already earmarked a legendary status for himself. However, the hero is not resting anytime soon. The seven-time Mr. Olympia is a force to be reckoned with. The legend is on a selfless mission to make America fit again and he will stop at nothing.

Schwarzenegger is a regular in the fitness and bodybuilding scene. Regularly spotted at gyms around the city of Los Angeles, the actor never misses an opportunity to encourage and motivate. He runs his daily online newsletter and podcast, Pump Club, which caters to the fitness needs of one and all at no charge. Recently, Schwarzenegger took to Twitter to pump up a fan and laud him for his efforts even though the other person felt that he had underperformed.

It was here when the legend highlighted the importance of progressive resistance training. Schwarzenegger also emphasized this in his newsletter once and essentially debunked the misconception that lifting weights is the sole method for muscle growth. According to The Terminator star, the key to resistance training lies in intensity. Merely performing repetitions with a lighter weight would not suffice; one must challenge the body and strive for failure.

This implies that on occasions, even finding oneself doing 20 or 30 reps is okay. Each time it is crucial to add be it reps, sets, or weight; that is what makes progressive resistance truly progressive.
