Only a few filmmakers can confidently say that they possess the power to transport audiences to a different time. And although talented in his own right, we doubt that The Kardashians director can be regarded as one. Yet when you watch Season 3 and meet a newly single Kim Kardashian, dealing with the remains of her broken marriage with Kanye West, you can not help but feel like a pendulum stuck between picking sides with Kim Kardashian and her former husband, now popularly regarded as Ye.

It won’t be a stretch to say that if Season 3 of The Kardashians was a melodrama, then the SKIMS owner would easily be the star of the show. After dropping fiery statements regarding parenting and her infamous tape, the business mogul has now shocked the world by saying she would do “anything” to bring back the old Kanye West.

The preview of the upcoming episode features the 42-year-old sans makeup in a black hoodie as she cries inconsolably. This scene is again reminiscent of a frame in The Kardashians Season 1 as the SKIMS owner called her then-husband crying after her son stumbled upon a supposed un-leaked version of her s*x tape. Except this time around, there was no Kanye West to call up on the phone. If there was, he was not the person she knew him to be. Ye was no longer the best friend she married in 2014 and the husband she renewed her vows with in 2021.

The plight of the rapper’s ex-wife does not come as much of a surprise. Especially to those who are avid listeners of West’s discography. Just two years after his marriage with the reality TV star, in 2016 Ye dropped one of his most acclaimed albums. ‘The Life of Pablo,’ the rapper’s seventh studio album, featured what would go on to be a decade-barring banger ‘I love Kanye.’

I miss the old Kanye,” the rapper wrote in a fitting clap back to memes claiming he was a narcissist. However, with how synonymous it is with his former wife’s statements, it seems like ‘I love Kanye’ was more than a tongue-in-cheek self-referential track. The symbolism of it does not escape fans as they jump in to put forth their opinion on the entire fiasco.

Season 3 of the reality show started filming back in October 2022. The Kanye West-driven witch hunt against Pete Davidson had yet to cool down around that time. The unlikely couple parted ways after nine months, making way for the former SNL comedian to become a universal boyfriend, while the reality TV star coped with the ruins of her marriage.

Fans have not received it well, despite her being separated from Ye at that time. Especially now, as the Kardashian makes high claims about doing “anything” to get the old Kanye West back.

Watching the starlet breakdown has also made fans discuss what are legit reasons to end a marriage. While the debate is still ongoing, what is for sure is that when it comes to music, Kanye West truly was ahead of his time.
