'Scream 7'- Release Date, New and Returning Cast, Storyline and More

Here comes another attempt to take down Sidney Prescott. The Scream franchise has served as a gateway to the slasher horror genre for many millennials and the new generation, not to mention the introduction of Ghostface, who has become one of the most iconic villains in horror history. Even though the writers, directors, and actors behind the mask have changed over the years, the franchise is still going strong, and now a seventh installment is in the works too. However, it is still very fresh and we do not have all the details about Scream 7 just yet.

Even so, one thing is for sure, the cast is shaping up to be quite the spectacle this time around. Fans can expect not only some new, exciting faces but also the return of many beloved veterans from the horror franchise.

Neve Campbell, the queen of Scream, decided to bow out of Scream 6, starring Jenna Ortega, as she felt that the salary she was offered did not quite match the star power she brought to the franchise. But Sidney Prescott is back for Scream 7. The actress confirmed her return with an Instagram photo of the sequel's script earlier. It has also been confirmed that Courteney Cox will be reprising her role as Gale Weathers. But the biggest surprise in the returning cast is Scott Foley, who played Roman Bridger in the 2000’s Scream 3—and, by the way, died.

It is, therefore, unclear if Foley will be reprising his role as Roman in Scream 7 or if he has been cast as a completely new character. Alongside these three, Scream 7 is also bringing back Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin. The cast is rounded out by Isabel May, Celeste O'Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, and Mark Consuelos. However, Sidney Prescott's return to the franchise, in particular, opens up some very intriguing plot possibilities.

According to some insiders, this time, the Ghostface or faces might not only be targeting Sidney but also her loved ones.

Scream 7 could be leading the franchise down an overly grim path

After Jenna Ortega's exit, Neve Campbell is back as the main Scream girl. Even though Sidney Prescott did not come back for Scream 6, the reboot movies have given fans a pretty good idea of what her life looks like now. Fans have learned that she has three kids. And according to some insider reports, as mentioned by Collider, the new Ghostface might be targeting Sidney and her family, including her husband Mark. This could take the franchise in a pretty dark direction, especially since none of the previous killers have ever gone after children before.

There is also a chance that Scream 7 could include a time jump, allowing Sidney’s kids to grow up a bit. This could help avoid any controversy for the project, since slasher movies usually do not go after kids. But no matter what the storyline ends up being, it is clear that the creators are determined not to give Sidney the happy ending she deserves.
