Box office heartbreaks are not new for stars but there are some that, despite stemming from the core of Tinseltown, do not fall under that umbrella. Fans know well about Henry Cavill’s unforeseen departure from two back-to-back franchises over a brief time period from the DC heartbreak to the Netflix trial. But now, another DC star, Sasha Calle, is lamenting a similar drowned spirit over a cut-short multi-film contract, making everyone undergo a DC déjà vu they never wanted.

While Hollywood has given dreamers a stage to make their dreams come true, it has also acted on its toes to break some of them and Calle could not help but express her frustration.

When DC announced that Henry Cavill would no longer don the cape of Superman, the ripple effect was felt far and wide. But Cavill was not the only one caught in the crossfire since Sasha Calle’s Supergirl was not spared, either. Reflecting on the studios’ decision to go in another direction with the character, Calle recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, revealing she shot an ending of The Flash which was supposed to roll the welcome mat for future adventures as part of her multi-film contract.

“It was heartbreaking for me,” Calle said, recounting how unusually dilemmatic the period was for her when her super adventures ended before time. The actor cited how many thought she could never become Supergirl, citing her queer Latina roots, but the fact she did spoke for itself. Hence, although Calle is onto bigger things, she is content with the number of people who resonate with her Supergirl since it is now a part of her she cherishes despite the curtain call.

James Gunn’s decision to let go of Henry Cavill’s Superman had the world pulling up the gates of the superhero continent with flags bearing chants echoing Justice for Cavill. At the time, Sasha Calle was all set to impress in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, but in her heart, she had a super aspiration to get Cavill’s stamp of approval. In a 2023 interview with Fandango, Calle revealed, having asked Cavill, “Did I make you proud? Does Superman approve?”

While at the time it was difficult to have foreseen Calle undergoing a heartbreak similar to the Man of Steel in the days to come, Cavill actually endorsed the Supergirl. The British actor thought she did a “phenomenal job” with the character and it was enough to get Calle’s super spirits moved. But with super heartbreaks now in the mix, who knows if redemption has a place on her bingo card, especially since Cavill already checked that box with Cavillrine.
