According to a Deadline report from January, the architect of the Evil Dead franchise, Sam Raimi recently tapped Dylan O'Brien to star opposite Rachel McAdams in his upcoming horror project from 20th Century Studios, Send Help. Raimi produces and directs the movie based on an original script by Baywatch writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift. Alongside Raimi, Zainab Azizi also produces Send Help under the Raimi Productions banner.
Azizi recently shared a behind-the-scenes snap from the set on her Instagram story, zooming in on the director’s chair for herself and Raimi, with their names and production roles emblazoned. The co-producer captioned the story as “Day 7,” meaning filming has been well underway for at least a week if not more by now. Send Help marks Raimi’s return to the horror spectrum for the first time since 2009’s Drag Me to Hell, and is expected to get a theatrical release.
Having said that, here is a lowdown on the plot of Send Help for anyone still uninitiated.
Inside the plot of Sam Raimi’s Send Help
Besides his return to the horror genre, Send Help marks Sam Raimi’s first directorial effort since Doctor Strange: The Multiverse of Madness, despite plenty of rumors that he will join the MCU again for the highly anticipated sequel. However, moving on from Hollywood’s gossip grapevine to something more concrete, like his upcoming project, it is described as a “two-hander horror thriller set on an island” by Deadline. The plot is said to be a mix of Rob Reiner’s Stephen King adaptation, Misery, and Robert Zemeckis’ Castaway.

According to a newer report by the outlet, Send Help is supposedly a “survival horror” that revolves around two colleagues who are the sole survivors of a plane crash, left stranded on a deserted island. However, to make it out alive on the island, they must leave behind their old grievances and join forces. “It’s a battle of wills and wits,” the synopsis reads, and only time will tell if they help themselves.
