SAF-AFTRA Strike Could Already Affect 2023’s Biggest Release As ‘Oppenheimer’ Gears Up for Its London Premiere
Some of the awaited movies and shows of this year are set to be affected by some of the biggest stories. There is already tough competition between Barbie and Oppenheimer, with fans wanting to see who is the better of the two. The clear winner will only be decided after the movies are released, but another dilemma has brewed up for the movie premiere.
Since the last few weeks, we have seen the writer’s strike continue, even bringing some big shows to a halt. Before that matter could be solved, this history-based drama’s premiere is running against time. The reason is the preparation and commencement of the SAF-AFTRA Strike. Here are two things that would happen as these things clash.

Christopher Nolan promised to give a realistic effect to his war-based movie. But a real-life challenge stands in front of them with the possibility of its premiere clashing with the actor’s strike. According to Variety, the movie’s UK premiere will be an hour before the schedule to avoid clashing with the strike and breaking any rules. It will now premiere at 4:45 p.m. as opposed to 5:45 p.m.
Doing this would likely allow the cast to attend, click photos, socialize, and then wrap things up before the strike commences. Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr. Matt Damon, and Emily Blunt are expected to be present for it. They already had their French premiere successfully on 20th July.
There will be negotiations between the SAF-AFTRA Strike and Universal Studios, along with a mediator, to see if they can reach a conclusion. But the problem is, if things do not go as expected, a strike could commence amidst the premiere. One thing that the actors do not want to do is break the strike. About 160,000 are expected to walk out, although it is unlikely that the actors will walk out midway through the premiere.
This is one of the most awaited movies of the year, with hopes for high turnout and expectations. On the other hand, it could also be one of the last ones to go smoothly before the strike potentially halts projects.

The Hollywood Writer’s strike will double down on their strike if SAF-AFTR joins in as well. Failure to come to an agreement over the contract led to this stage. They may be different organizations, but want similar things out of it. Fair pay and fair use of Artificial Technology are two concerning objectives that they want to find a solution to.
This is the first time since 1960 that the two boards have come together for a fight. The star cast of the flick will support the Christopher Nolan flick, while hopefully keeping up with the project’s anticipation.
