Ryan Reynolds delivered the biggest superhero movie of 2024. But even with the billion-dollar success of Deadpool & Wolverine, the overall year for superhero movies has been a tough one. Meanwhile, DC’s slate has been either underperforming or flat-out bombing at the box office since 2023. Now, Warner Bros. and DC are betting big on the new DC Universe, hoping it will be the cornerstone of the next decade of movies and TV shows, starting with David Corenswet's Superman in 2025. And it turns out Ryan Reynolds is just as excited as anyone.

The Deadpool actor recently shared his excitement for the upcoming Superman movie as James Gunn posted a new poster for the film.

James Gunn recently dropped a motion poster for Superman, giving a nod to Christopher Reeve’s iconic take on the Man of Steel. On Instagram Threads, Gunn shared the poster with the caption, “Look up. Superman is only in theatres July 11.” Fans could not wait to jump in with their reactions, and Ryan Reynolds was right there with them. The 48-year-old actor simply responded with three words- “Yes yes yes.

The poster showed Corenswet’s Superman looking up, ready to take flight. Meanwhile, the red, blue, and yellow of his suit blurred into the background, creating a speedy, eye-catching effect that made it seem like he was zooming into the sky. Apart from the new poster, Warner Bros. also released a short teaser with the Superman logo, teasing that the trailer is coming on December 19. But Reynolds’ support for Gunn’s Superman is not that surprising. The two have a pretty appreciative relationship and have always spoken highly of each other.

James Gunn celebrates Deadpool & Wolverine's success

Before making the switch to DC Studios, James Gunn was a key figure at Marvel Studios for years. So, it makes perfect sense that he would be excited to see the MCU still doing so well. When Deadpool & Wolverine smashed box office records earlier this year, Gunn took to social media to celebrate the film's success. He shared his joy for Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Shawn Levy, and all his friends at Marvel Studios.

This was not the first time Gunn had shown support for Reynolds and the Deadpool team. Back in 2018, when Deadpool 2 had a huge opening weekend, Gunn congratulated them in his own unique way. He posted a picture of Groot, the lovable character from Guardians of the Galaxy, which Gunn directed, dressed up in Deadpools signature red. It was his playful way of showing love for the Deadpool universe. It is safe to say that Gunn and Reynolds have a solid bond and appreciate what the other brings to the table.
