Ryan Reynolds Offers a Special Treat to All, Following ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’s Win Over a Pioneer MCU Movie
It was not entirely out of place for Deadpool to liken himself to the Marvel Jesus. In a sense, the superhero did indeed help rescue the MCU from its prolonged dry spell. The movie grossed over a billion worldwide- always a rare feat for an R-rated film. And with the introduction of an R-rated character, Marvel Studios has finally been handed the keys to unlock a broader array of characters and narratives that can cater to more audiences. This was recently proven once again when Deadpool & Wolverine hit another major milestone.

Deadpool & Wolverine has once again beaten the odds. This billion-dollar installment recently shot up to become the 5th highest-grossing comic book movie ever made, even surpassing The Avengers. To celebrate this achievement, Ryan Reynolds took to X to serve up a tasty treat for his fans, writing, "Shawarma for everyone!". Deadpool & Wolverine paid their respects to The Avengers at nearly every turn in the film.
The reason being- the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starter was seen as an Avengers-level movie even before its release. In fact, one of Deadpool & Wolverine's biggest gags was made through a shawarma-based Easter egg from The Avengers. The whole shawarma thing is a running joke for creator Joss Whedon. It originated when Nicholas Brendon came in for his audition for Xander and asked if they wanted to go grab some shawarma with him. Nonetheless, in a way, the MCU has helped bring shawarma to a whole new audience in a hilarious way.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the cast of The Avengers, along with its writer and director, Joss Whedon, shared that Robert Downey Jr., who used to play Iron Man back then, was the one who suggested the movie's now-famous post-credits shawarma scene. He felt there should be something extra to give the audience a sense of closure. The scene featured the Avengers digging into the delicious Middle Eastern meal after saving the day, which suddenly made the superheroes much more relatable.
It was filmed after The Avengers premiere but before its big-screen release- when the cast was probably just as worn out as their superhero alter egos. Some had also jumped into new projects by that time. Even in Deadpool & Wolverine, fans saw the superheroes enjoying some shawarma after saving the entire multiverse. Therefore, it looks like Ryan Reynolds is ready to keep the shawarma legacy alive in the MCU.
