Ryan Reynolds Mourns as the Marvel Cinematic Universe ‘Deadpool’ Art Director Ray Chan Breaths His Last at 56
A result of several years of persuasion, manifestation, and well prayers, Deadpool & Wolverine, if not a culmination of Ryan Reynolds' most earnest wishes, is definitely a monumental project in his life. However, as important as it is, neither its Marvel entry nor his collaboration with Hugh Jackman is the reason for its closeness to his heart.
Having spent a majority of the last couple of years on the Deadpool & Wolverine sets, for Reynolds to have come to love every speck of the movie is natural, and so was his emotional tribute to the boundlessly talented art director, Ray Chan.

It is often said that behind the creation of a movie lies the work of several devoted crew members, who, although do not appear on-screen, feel represented through their work of art that does. Raymond Chan, a trusted art director for Marvel, was one such individual. Chan was working alongside Reynolds for the stunner that Deadpool & Wolverine is hoped to be. Therefore, as he passed away on Tuesday, the actor was evidently heartbroken while delivering his respects on X. Praising him, he wrote how," it's unusual to encounter someone with that level of artistry," as Chan had.
The Deadpool actor in his heart-wrenching message also recalled the last conversation he had with the art director that went something along the lines of Reynolds remarking that Chan created magic. As he sat to make amends for his sudden death, the actor wrote, "That's a little scrap of consolation I'll hang onto forever."
While Ray Chan was a part of the crew and not the cast, it was clear that Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool & Wolverine, the movie in all its entirety, will be a representation of him and the magic he created. Not just the anticipated Merc with a Mouth starrer, but also several other projects will now be remembered as his work of art.
