‘Two steps forward, one step back’ seems to be the tune to which Wrexham AFC is marching at the moment. With Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney making strides in some aspects, the Welsh club has seen significant growth under their leadership. But not every day can be a good one, and 5th August was a particularly bad one for the Deadpool star. Returning to the English Football League after a 15-year-long gap, spectators had high hopes for what became a saddening defeat for the club.
Signaling the need for a major shift in their strategy, the defeat comes as a wake-up call to the club. To combat this, Reynolds and McElhenney will now pull in new transfers in the next month under the instructions of a leading figure.

Losing 5-3 to MK Dons, Wrexham plummeted all the way down to 21 on the table. A disheartened Phil Parkinson who is the club’s manager calls it a “reality check” in a video posted to the club’s YouTube channel. In a conversation with Goal, Parkinson reveals that he sat down for a beer with Reynolds and McElhenney after the match to have a chat. They discussed adding “a couple more players” before 1st September which is when the window will close.
He goes on to say how this move could make for a “very strong squad.” Regardless of whether they manage these transfers, he says that they still have a lot more “ability on the football pitch” than was seen in that match. After bringing in some impressive players to the club recently, fans now wonder who their choice for the new transfers could be.
Regardless of Wrexham’s defeat, there was a pleasant surprise in store for spectators at the match because Racecourse Ground was graced by a special Hollywood friend of Ryan Reynolds.
Deadpool 3 co-star joins Ryan Reynolds in the stands
Especially since the addition of Wolverine, Deadpool 3 has become one of the most awaited Marvel flicks of the year. And the actor behind Wolverine, Hugh Jackman has become a close friend/frenemy of Reynolds too. With SAG-AFTRA strikes causing delays to the movie’s shooting, both actors have had plenty of time to spare. This is why it did not come as a surprise when the Australian actor showed up for Wrexham’s match over the weekend.

This must have made the staggering 5-3 loss all the more painful for Reynolds. Maybe the embarrassment will fuel the 46-year-olds efforts to get new faces that can turn around the performance of the club.
