Deadpool & Wolverine might be the first R-rated movie from the MCU, but during its development, Ryan Reynolds had to resort to his R-rated parlance more than once. Reynolds recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to discuss a leak that pushed him to his limit. If one recalls, the movie lacked an official title before the first trailer’s release. However, Reynolds felt the credit should go to the "sons of b**ches on the Internet" who leaked the title they thought was final, Deadpool & Friend.

Reynolds tried to stay composed as he disclosed that he had never shared the story about the movie’s original title before. He recalled that just before the first trailer’s release; the title was leaked online on the eve of the Super Bowl. In an April interview with Screen Rant, Shawn Levy, the director of Deadpool & Wolverine, addressed a major misconception about the film at CinemaCon. Levy chose to clarify the key reason behind the title change from Deadpool 3 to its current name. The filmmaker explained that the movie is certainly "the third Deadpool movie, but it’s not Deadpool 3", meaning it is not a direct sequel to the previous installments.

Levy explained that the film is designed as a “two-hander character adventure,” which justifies including both Deadpool and Wolverine in the title. This shift from the title convention used in Fox’s original Deadpool movies reflects the MCU’s intention to highlight the importance of both lead characters and give their star power equal prominence. However, it seems the title change also involved some behind-the-scenes expertise from whistleblowers as their magic hands did what Ryan Reynolds did not think.
