Deadline has recently revealed that Deadpool 3 will resume production in January, which was 50% complete before the strike began. This comes after the talks between SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP that began on Sunday, expected to result in a new deal that would end the 108-day strike. According to a guild member, the negotiations have given a “feeling of optimism” for it to end once and for all. However, the situation remains fluid due to the complexity of the strikes.

A slew of high-profile actors, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sarah Paulson, Chelsea Handler, and others, showed their support. Further, they have proclaimed their desire to strike the SAG-AFTRA committee if a fair resolution is not reached. A source also stated that SAG-AFTRA still has a considerable amount of work to do in order to offer fair streaming revenue residuals to the 160,000 powerful unions. Further, the studios’ use of artificial intelligence protects actors’ rights. The most challenging part is coming to an agreement that benefits both parties.

The Hollywood entertainment industry received a significant setback when the WGA and SAG-AFTRA announced a complete suspension of all productions in their first strike since 1980. The first one to come under the radar was Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Deadpool 3. However, Jenna Ortega’s Beetlejuice 2 was less than two days away from completion when the strikes began as per director Tim Burton.

The famed filmmaker noted in an interview with Variety in September 2023 that now that the strikes are in full swing, the viewers would have to wait for production to resume. Surprisingly, Michael Keaton will reprise his iconic role from 1988 in the planned sequel. The film became a cult favorite and starred Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis as a pair. In the second installment, Winona Ryder and Jenna Ortega will play new characters in the afterlife fantasy drama.
