Recently, Charlie Methven, co-owner of London’s Charlton Athletic F.C., appeared on the Where’s the Money Gone? podcast to explain how Reynolds and McElhenney have boosted Wrexham’s profile across the UK and beyond. He revealed that Wrexham is now pulling in “four to five times that level of commercial sponsorship” compared to any average “normal League One club of a decent size.”
The reason being its popularity. Thanks to the hit Netflix show, two Hollywood heavyweights, and a touch of sentimentality, Wrexham’s fanbase has exploded over the years. Now, global companies are lining up to invest in the club as they see it as a smarter investment than splashing out on a Premier League deal. But Reynolds and McElhenney are not just resting on their sponsorships.
The Hollywood bigwigs have recently cashed in a minority stake in the club and bought a local brewery to grow their empire further.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have recently expanded their Wrexham empire by adding a brewery to their football club takeover. The power duo now co-owns Wrexham Lager, which already sponsors Wrexham AFC and holds the title of the oldest British lager brewery still standing. And it does not stop there. They are also selling a stake Allyn family, a wealthy clan from upstate New York.

The Allyn family will become minority owners of Wrexham AFC, while also working on the new Wrexham Lager Beer through a shiny new collaboration called Red Dragon Ventures. The owners and investors are currently planning to to roll out distribution in the US and Canada soon, catering to both Welcome to Wrexham fans and beyond, while also bringing in even more business for the already bustling club.
