The actor is thus expanding his business empire with a new venture in cricket investment. Having already scored goals with football club ownership with Wrexham AFC and mobile networking Mint Mobile, Reynolds is now forging into the cricket crease.

Unlike his previous territories, this field is filled with heavyweights, like IPL, to compete with unless he pulls the typical Reynolds tactics to sweep it off their feet. 

According to ESPN, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny are vying for cricket investment supremacy, battling one of the world's most famous cricket leagues, Indian Premier League (IPL) owners. Both parties have expressed keen interest in investing in The Welsh Fire, a Cardiff-based team in The Hundred. Their unmatched success with Wrexham, achieving back-to-back promotions, has sparked their desire to expand into cricket. Talks with Glamorgan, Welsh Fire's affiliated cricket club, are already underway. 

The interest is, in fact, two-sided with England and Wales’ first-class cricket county club, Glamorgan expressing excitement in potential investment from the Reynolds-McElhenney duo. Its Chief Executive Dan Cherry confirms to ESPN that, “if they're interested in talking to us, obviously it's an exciting proposition”. The executive further admitted the “obvious interest” that is inclined towards the duo.

Despite the favors in the Wrexham owners' court, winning The Welsh Fire would not be as easy as it was with the Wrexham AFC. 

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has initiated a process to attract private investment in The Hundred, generating a high-stake showdown among interested heavyweights. IPL franchise owners are particularly keen on purchasing stakes in teams. Despite their inclination towards the Reynolds’ team, owing to their success with Wrexham, the executive pressed on making the right decision for the club and the game. 

The team is focused din finding the “right investor that’s going to improve what we do and support us along the journey”, as iterated by Dan Cherry. The ECB, meanwhile, notes "phenomenal" interest from investors, highlighting the competition's growing appeal. Thus, it brings fresh capital and expertise to The Hundred, enhancing its reputation as a premier cricket tournament, and also making it tougher for Reynolds to make his mark.
