Deadpool & Wolverine is undeniably the third Deadpool movie, but the very first of its kind under the Marvel Cinematic Universe banner. And since it is not Deadpool 3 because of its archetypical shift from a focus on Merc with a Mouth to him and Wolverine, a question that often finds fans at a loss is the pair’s future in the MCU. Reflecting on the same, the leads of the movie, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman recently shed some light on these concerns.

Intriguingly, however, both Reynolds and Jackman were spellbound like the fans when inquired about their character’s fate in the MCU.

Deadpool & Wolverine might not be Ryan Reynolds’ initial vision, but there goes a lot of his say in making the movie one-of-a-kind. Hence, if not for anyone else, fans at least expected the Deadpool actor to know about the bouts regarding his pairing with Wolverine’s long road in the MCU. However, when he and Hugh Jackman were asked about the same during their recent interview with the Empire Magazine for their Deadpool & Wolverine issue, both played coy with the former, stating he is “nervous” to address it.

Jackman, on the other hand, maintained Deadpool’s diabolical stance by reiterating how he has never been so “scared” in his entire life of what he might say. The answers, they stressed, were not too indifferent and majorly shrouded in secrecy. But given the MCU’s penchant for post-credits scenes, the questions might hold answers for fans once the movie hits the theaters. And since both seemed to have ducked the question very well altogether, it is speculative that there remain some Easter eggs that cannot be meddled with before its release and this is perhaps one of among the many.

Reynolds and Jackman may have gotten some jitters throwing light on the most-asked question regarding Deadpool and Wolverine’s MCU future. However, the maker, Shawn Levy, did emphasize that the movie will indeed be Marvel Jesus, regardless. 

During his discussions with the Empire Magazine, Shawn Levy addressed MCU’s latest setbacks with subpar releases and not-so-enthusiastic reception. He commented on the franchise’s recent struggles with reinventing its inventory to gain momentum at the box office and Disney’s commitment to limiting the films and shows in the future for quality content. Levy reinstated that although Deadpool & Wolverine is the first MCU movie of its kind, its entry to this universe could not have been at a more “interesting time”.

Given Deadpool’s proclamation of being the Marvel Jesus, Levy highlighted that fans are in for its truth claim since the movie is “decidedly something different”. The director was nevertheless on the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman team when it came to giving straightforward answers. However, he did hint that whether the movie is on “messianic proportions” will be revealed once and for all when it releases on July 26. Hence, perhaps, Deadpool and Wolverine’s future in the MCU might also be unveiled on the release date.
