Barbie will go down in history as one of the defining movies of this era, and it is not just because it topped the charts in terms of earnings. Beyond Greta Gerwig’s compelling storytelling, captivating cinematography, and exceptional performances by the cast, the movie also holds societal importance for attempting to break down the age-old barriers of a patriarchal society. Yet, there was an underrated aspect of Barbie that truly put the final polish on the movie’s excellence.

Gosling recently credited this overlooked contribution to the blockbuster movie while expressing his regret for an iconic Ken attribute, that he invented to cut short his interaction with media about the film.

Ryan Gosling attended Variety’s Hitmakers event on Saturday where he revealed that the term “Kenergy” was nothing but a word he randomly invented so he did not have to answer media questions. However, the term has “haunted” him ever since. While explaining what is “Kenergy”, the actor gave a shout-out to Mark Ronson, who was the man behind Barbie’s soundtrack that just made the movie shine even brighter. Gosling mentioned Ronson while presenting this year’s honors for Soundtrack of the Year to him.

Gosling insisted that Ronson and his music gave Ken, who was up until just a neglected doll, a “Grammy-nominated power ballad and the voice of an angel”. He credited Ronson for everything Ken and his energy is. Ronson also added while accepting his award that Greta Gerwig’s Barbiebrought the best out of” everyone. This event took place just a few days after Greta Gerwig herself brought “Kenergy” to another event.
