And a year later, with the unfurling of the award seasons, the Marvel release won the Best Comedy category, tying with A Real Pain at the Critics Choice Awards. Although Ryan Reynolds was not present at the ceremony, he acknowledged the honor on his Instagram.

“Zing! Thanks @criticschoice – whole team @deadpoolmovie is thrilled,” Reynolds captioned the post before asking viewers to hold their horses for a minute and swipe to the next slide. The next slide shows the second winner of the category, A Real Pain, and the actor ensured congratulatory messages flooded in just as much for the other project in the spotlight. Though Reynolds’ presence at the venue would have been a highlight without a doubt, he nevertheless turned it into a moment of standing ovation, like he always does.
