Meghan Markle has been on the receiving end of public scrutiny ever since she stepped into the Royal household. From the beginning, the 42-year-old received a cold reception from the royals for several reasons. However, Markle always followed her own heart even if she had to push the envelope a bit. From marrying into British royalty to stepping down as a senior royal with her husband, Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex opened the door to a whole new era at the royal palace. However, every revolutionary change comes with its own pushback. 

When there is the presence of a counterpart who belongs to an aristocratic British family, it is understandable for someone as radical as the Duchess to face even greater scrutiny. However, recently there has been a shift in the prevailing public sentiment. They pointed out the duplicity in Markle’s treatment by the royal supporters when Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, recently spiced up her everyday hairdo and opted for a low bun with face-framing curtain bangs.

The media went gaga over Middleton’s fresh hairstyle and praised her fall fashion choice. The princess who stayed true to her usual bouncy waves all these years blew everyone’s mind with her new look. However, fans were quickly able to point out how the Duchess of Sussex received a starkly contrasting reaction six years ago for the same. While Markle faced public bashing for breaking the royal protocols, years later Middleton is garnering praise for bringing a change to the outdated rules. 

This difference in reaction did not sit well with the rational public and they took to social media, showcasing the unfair treatment of Markle during her days as a senior royal.

The British Royals keep a long checklist of rules and regulations that every member of the family needs to follow. Princess Diana was the first woman in the family to shatter conventions, and years later, Markle assumed the torch. One of these rules includes women in the family to have their hair perfectly sleek and smooth, without any stray hairs flying around. Both Markle and Middleton violated this guideline, but the former got more heat than the latter. 

So naturally keen-eyed royal enthusiasts were quick to point out the disparity.

Fans also accused the Princess of Wales of copying the former actress’s style. Apart from a messy hairdo, Middleton also opted for ballet flats, a trademark of Markle, instead of her go-to pointy-toe pumps. 

People also expressed how the new hairstyle did not suit Middleton and she failed to pull off the look like the Suits actress. 

In the meantime, the relations between the Sussexes and Waleses are in hot waters, given how Prince William reportedly doesn’t wish for a reconciliation following Prince Harry’s revelations in his memoir, Spare. Therefore, given that the 41-year-old has already been reportedly upset and “hurt” by the Sussexes, these comparisons could further add fuel to the fire.
