The actor delivered a flawless performance in the part that many action stars look up to today. Interestingly, Schwarzenegger once had a unique plan before the release of Terminator Genisys.

It took Schwarzenegger years of acting and multiple films to establish himself as an action star in the industry. However, it was the Terminator franchise that brought the actor’s fame to a whole next level. And a few years ago, Schwarzenegger dressed up as the T-800 and pranked the fans in the most hilarious manner. 

When Arnold Schwarzenegger showed people how T-800 would look like in real life

Back in 2015, mere days before the release of Terminator Genisys, Arnold Schwarzenegger took to the crowded streets of Hollywood dressed up as the T-800 to build the hype around the film. In addition to promoting the film, Schwarzenegger even raised awareness about the After-School All-Stars charity. A video of the same resurfaced online on Twitter. 

The video featured the Austrian Oak going through hours of makeup to look like a damaged version of the character. Unlike the film, Schwarzenegger portrayed the character in a light-hearted manner. He pranked the fans on the street, who were shocked to see Schwarzenegger with damaged makeup. Moreover, the actor even delivered some iconic lines from the film during his time on the streets.

Following that, Schwarzenegger reached the famous Madame Tussauds Wax Museum and stood as a statue there. As hilarious as it sounds, the FUBAR star scared all the fans who clicked pictures with him, thinking he was a wax figure. Fans who donated to the charity even had a chance to attend the film’s premiere and after-party. Interestingly, the promotion technique surely seemed to work for the film.

How well did Terminator Genisys do at the box office?

The Terminator franchise is undoubtedly one of the most successful film franchises in Hollywood. Schwarzenegger played a massive role in popularising the film among the audience. And unsurprisingly, Terminator Genisys was also a huge success for the franchise. 

Schwarzenegger stepping out as T-800 on the streets worked in the film’s favor, as it grossed nearly $440.6 million around the world. In addition to that, the film became the second highest-grossing movie for the franchise just behind Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
